National Novel Writing Month 2010

Who has heard of NaNoWriMo?
I've been meaning to do this for years now and have never tried it. Are there any brave souls willing to give up the month of November?
Here's a summary

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month's time.
Who: You! We can't do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let's write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.
Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era's most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.
When: You can sign up anytime to add your name to the roster and browse the forums. Writing begins November 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30 at midnight. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.

  1. What a great idea. Let's do it. Anyone else interested? We could do it as an "Add on ahapter" format and pass the manuscript onto the next writer. Start with an outline of
a plot or story and go from there.

  2. i went on their website and it was fun! I would participate in the 'do a chapter' thing Don, if we get enough people except I think their criteria is that the novel has to be penned by one hand so to speak. Is anyone contemplating the madness of tackling it on their own???

  3. You know you guys - I think I'm just gonna go for it. I will be spending about a week on vacation, but that's a great time to write - right?! I'll give it a go - who else is in?

  4. Wow. Good for you Nicole and I would have less hesitation with a week off too, but am a working girl for the whole damn month...drats! Perhaps those of us that take the leap can have weekly wine/whine sessions to encourage each other! I am still on the fence but will need to decide ASAP.

  5. Heather, I bet you could write that in a month, and have fun doing it! And we would all like to read it!
I, (sad face - imagine how much faster screen-play writing will be for all those who know the symbols :( - I diverge)however, won't be able to participate, but I will gladly encourage all those of you who are writing. You go!
