Why do you write?

In "Writing Down the Bones" Natalie Goldberg says every so often that we should write down the reasons we write. Here are a few I came up with. Would love to hear yours whether they're the same or different.
  1. I want to be remembered.
  2. It makes me feel important.
  3. I want to impress people.
  4. To understand what I'm capable of.
  5. Smart people write. I want to prove that I'm smart, just in case anyone has their doubts.
  6. I want my least favourite people to envy me. (Scandalous, I know).
  7. To be famous.
  8. To be remembered fondly.
  9. Writing is a creative outlet.
Hope your Sunday is great & Happy EQUINOX!

  1. I write because I am compelled to do so. To be is to write. I tell the truth through fiction. I want to make the world better, to enhance understanding of what the hell is going on and what we must do to change it. I just have to write. Fame? Don't want that! Fortune? Just enough to feed and clothe myself, buy stuff to write on, pay the dental bills and go to the occasional play:)

  2. Pondering your question...I write for my emotional health or I get 'spiritually constipated'. I write to share memories and moments with others. I write to capture the past, honour the present and dream about the future. I write for my daughters and their daughters(and sons) to share the stories that are part of who they are and who they will become. I write because it connects me with who I am and the intricate web we are all bound up in together. I write because I have the freedom to do so and can't imagine a life without word weaving.

  3. Reasons Why I Write:
    1. I want to inspire people.
    2. I want to raise awareness about social issues.
    3. I want to create books that convey great truths.
    4. My writing goes with my art which I want to make available to everyone as an expression of the beauty and magic that is in and around us.
    5. I believe in public art.
    6. I believe creativity is the key to happiness and happiness is the key to success.
    7. I want to win another Governor General Award.
    8. I want people to know that I'm smart and deep, just in case there's any doubt.
9.I believe in education and communication.

  4. I've always wanted to write, but haven't since adolescence. I've also discovered the secret to becoming a writer; start writing. Coming to my first Write On meeting a month ago was my first foray into writing. I'm really enjoying this group, thanks for being there.

    So. In no particular order:

    1. I like words and I like constructing sentences.
    2. I need a creative outlet.
    3. I have a lot of opinions and want to be able to express them / force them on people.
    4. I'm scared that computers have made me functionally illiterate.
    5. I too, want to prove that I'm smart.
    6. I'm not a great verbal communicator, so writing is my first and best line of defense.

    (Yay! My first blog post!)
